8 HP outboard motors sit between the 6 HP and 9.9 HP classes. Many 8 HP models share an engine platform with their 9.9 HP siblings and are tuned slightly lower, which makes them a good fit for 12–15 foot aluminum boats and jon boats, and for waters where a small horsepower limit applies. If you want a little more push than a 6 HP but do not need the top-end of a 9.9, this is the size to look at.
